Kindness in Customer Service is Out

Miserable Employees

I don’t understand why people that work in settings that have to do with people (retail stores and more) have forgotten the art of customer service. What happened to a “hello. How are you? Welcome.” Any of these greetings will do. It would be nice to come across a cashier who greets you with a smile when you walk up to their register instead of just grabbing your items and commence to ring them up without one word.

Now I will admit that there are still some wonderful people out there in the world working in various customer service jobs with joy and kindness. But unfortunately, there are far too many who just don’t care anymore, and it shows on their face and through their actions; quite frankly it's sad, disheartening and I am tired of it.

Recently, I had an experience at a local grocery store prompted this short story. While shopping with my husband I decided to purchase an actual lunchbox that I may not even use that often, but when I got to the register there was no tag on it, so I had to go back and choose a different one. On my way I passed by a different cashier’s aisle and said “Hi” on the way by, got no answer in response. Then when I went to pay for the one with the tag on it every cashier was helping…
